Youngest and dynamic, Suhas Gopinath is a name to reckon with in this digital start up era. It is actually a wonder that this man established his own bootstrapped start-up when the industry was not even established in India. Today, his company Global Inc is a multimillion-dollar company with the offices in the United States, India, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the UK among others. The company has 100+ employees and 56 abroad.
When Suhas started his business, he was clueless that his company and his vision would be recognized by the European parliament and International association for Human Values as “Young Achiever Award” on him. Along with other business dignitaries, he was also invited to address European parliament and was again conferred with “Young Global Leaders” for 2008-2009 by the prestigious World Economic Forum. Thus becoming one of the youngest members in the World Economic Forum with other members such as Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, musician AR Rahman, Prince of Brunei, etc.
But Suhas also had his own ups and downs:
Childhood: Coming from a very humble background, his father worked as a scientist for the Indian Army, and he used to study in Air force School. At that time when computer just made its first appearance in Indian market, owning one was a difficult task for the middle class. As a student who is interested in programming culture of computer science, he bartered a deal with an internet café owner in his neighbourhood, where he used to take care of the shop during lunch hours and get free access to the computer he always dreamt of. Thus begun the journey of India’s youngest entrepreneur.
Building road for the future: Once Suhas got an access to the cyber café, he started learning the tricks of the trade of website designing. He listed himself as a freelancer, and got the first deal for $100 which that helped him take off in his dream. After that he started his own website by the name of coolhindustan.com that catered to the NRIs. Following that companies approached him for the work.
Suhas always believed that IT is not just technology but a tool that can solve the problems of the people and that is what drives people.
