  • The 19-year-old took home the gold medal, on June 6, in Yecheon, Republic of Korea, at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships with 7,003 total points.
  • Before the competition, Air India and a South Korean airline refused to let Kumar transport the pole vault because of the technological challenges brought on by its five-meter length, due to which Kumar suffered a setback.
  • On the competition’s penultimate day, he borrowed the pole vault from the organizers and won the 10-event competition with a mark of 7,003 points, a personal best.
  • To make up for his mediocre performance in the other events and take home the gold medal in the two-day competition, he won the 100-meter hurdles, discus throw, and javelin throw.
