An insight into Suchi Mukherjee’s entrepreneurial journey to success

Don’t give up, keep moving forward and never take “no” for an answer, is what young women entrepreneurs in India swear by. The dream to be a boss takes a lot of hard work before it finally comes to fruition, but that doesn’t stop these motivated women to work towards it.

Breaking every barrier, and moving head-to-head with men in every field, women are making their presence incumbent.

One such woman of substance is Suchi Mukherjee, whose desire to build and grow made her surpass every fear. She developed a deep sense of passion for entrepreneurship, motivating her to reach greater heights in business.

Down the (Lime) road

Suchi Mukherjee’s Limeroad is a lifestyle dedicated website, selling products and services all over India. With the flourishing e-commerce market, Suchi realized the potential of internet in making her go-big.

Also, online product discovery was proving to be a pain-point amongst women in India at the time, but no one ever thought about making a business out of it.

Suchi herself faced the inconvenience of not being able to get her hands over a piece of jewelry she found in a magazine, and she thought of capitalizing on the opportunity. This made Suchi stand apart from the rest. She set up Limeroad to help people get their desired products at any location they wished.

With her portal, she created one of the most extensive discovery platforms for lifestyle products in India.

Education and early career

Completing her Bachelors from the University of Cambridge and Masters in Finance and Economics from London School of Economics, Suchi had high educational credentials.

She started working after completing her masters. Her first company was Lehman Brothers Inc, where she served for 5 years as a Senior Associate for Corporate Finance. Other major brand names that Suchi associated herself with were eBay, Virgin Media, Skype and Gumtree (under eBay Inc.)

Working white-collar for some of the major brand names, Suchi was living the ultimate corporate dream but however, wasn’t satisfied. Her entrepreneurship instinct didn’t make her settle for working under someone, and she wanted to make her big idea a reality. It was then that she implanted the seeds of Limeroad – which has now sprouted gloriously.

Being a married woman with two children, Suchi has proved that nothing can come between you and your dreams if you are firm in your resolute.

Limeroad’s success

Initially facing difficulties in raising funds, Suchi was absolutely determined to establish her idea-enterprise. What made her more confident was that fact that India at that time accounted for more than 21% manufacturing of lifestyle products of the world (nearly $1 trillion industry).

Tapping the opportunity, Suchi’s Limeroad achieved great success with 50 million monthly visitors. With over 40,000 regular active shoppers, Limeroad is both empowering people, specifically women, and broadening their choice palette.

The Online fashion retailer has marked a double revenue in the company’s balance scorecard in the year ended March 31 (2016).

Facing challenges with composure and being hawk-eyed for success, Suchi Mukherjee has established Limeroad as a major online portal. She always said, “You need the fighter gene to succeed and that requirement is gender agnostic.”
