Early Life and Education:

Born and Brought up in Rohtak, Haryana, Shafali’s journey into cricket began at the tender age of five. In a town where opportunities for girls in cricket were scarce, she defied norms and honed her skills in a boy’s cricket academy. Encouraged by her father, Sanjeev Verma, a cricket enthusiast, she pursued her passion, practicing tirelessly despite the challenges of limited resources.

 

Verma balanced her cricketing pursuits with her education, attending Mandeep Senior Secondary School in Rohtak, Haryana. She remained committed to her studies alongside sports and even scored well in her exams.

Shafali even cut her hair short to play disguised as a boy. Her coach, Ashwani Kumar recognised her talents and allowed her to play and train with Under-19 and Under-23 Ranji trophy players. Eventually, Shafali captained the Haryana U19 Women’s Cricket team in 2018.
