Indu Jain Success Story : The woman who grew BCCL into India’s most successful media conglomerate

Indu Jain is a lady with zeal and her success story is an inspirational one. Born into an industrial family in India, she realized her dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur at an early stage. After taking over the chairmanship of the media giant BCCL (Bennett Coleman & CO. Ltd), the company grew over $4 billion, and the workforce expanded up to 11,000 with her continuous hard work.

Today, BCCL has become one of India’s most important media groups. While her sons have now taken over the BCCL after the demise of their father, Indu has taken a backseat as an interceder, and now, she is the one behind handling conflicts. She is basically the cement that holds the conglomerate together.

Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd has a flagship brand named – The Times of India which has now become the largest English daily in India. The conglomerate also owns The Economic Times, Times FM, Femina, TV channels like Times Now and FOX Life, and several radio stations.

Indu Jain innovated The Times Foundation in the year 2000 with sustainable development and transformational change as their crucial functions. The foundation runs community services, research foundations, and times relief funds for regions that are affected by disasters such as cyclones, earthquakes, and cataracts.

Presently, Indu is the chairman of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). She’s also the speaker of Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust, which was founded by Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain, her father-in-law in 1944. The Trust felicitates Indian authors with Jnanpith Award annually who give outstanding donations towards literature. Furthermore, Indu Jain is deeply involved in spiritualism and believes that the prism of spirituality pervades all other worlds.

Once, Indu Jain said that “living in the present means not having regrets for the past, not fussing for the future. Life is what it is now. I was born a seeker, and I was veritably curious to explore. I do not see a choice between being happy and having a purpose in life. Life is an inconceivable adventure and you should give it your best.”

Indu was awarded ‘Padma Bhushan’ in January 2016 for her achievements in professional as well as social spheres, and the ‘Mahatma-Mahavir Award’ for guiding ‘The Oneness Forum’ which was initiated by the President. Considering her women’s commission measures, she was also awarded the ‘International Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Indian Congress of Women.

In the year 2000, Indu addressed the United Nations at the Millennium World Peace Summit, with regards to religious and spiritual leaders. She also entered the All India Management Association periodic award for her constant donation to media. When asked regarding the success of BCCL, she emphasized that they’ve beautified the change according to the need of time. It’s her thirst for knowledge that turned her into a seeker.
