  • Anant Agarwal was born in Mangalore, India, on March 14, 1959. Raised in a middle-class family that valued education, he displayed an early aptitude for mathematics and science.
  • He did his schooling at St. Aloysius Mangalore, after which he pursued his bachelor’s from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, one of India’s premier institutions, in Electrical Engineering (1982).
  • Further, he completed his post-graduation in the same field (Electrical Engineering) at Stanford University, where he received his Master of Science degree in 1984 and PhD in 1987.

  • Agarwal’s edX is an MIT and Harvard-led global online learning venture.
  • Carbon Project, which is working on new scalable multicore architectures, a new multicore and cloud operating system called fos, and Graphite, a distributed, parallel simulator for multicore and clouds is headed by him.
