Founder and CEO of Heyday, Deepanjali Dalmia is a female entrepreneur who brought about a ‘period revolution’ by introducing an end-to-end biodegradable, organic sanitary napkin to the Indian market. At the age of 26, she quit her job at one of the most prestigious organizations, Ernst&Young, New York, and decided to start her own business.
‘Heyday’ was born after thorough research of the personal hygiene market in India. After an in-depth analysis, she made an alarming discovery – nearly 87 percent of women do not have access to sanitary napkins in India, and even those that do, have no clue about its harmful consequences on feminine health. According to Dalmia, “They are synthetic and manufactured from plastic — contains harmful industrial chemicals like dioxin causing cervical cancer.”
With a team of young innovators (environmental scientists and lab technicians), she succeeded in making all-natural sanitary pads from organic and biodegradable plant-based fibers of corn and bamboo using a highly specialized and patented – ‘spun lace method. Today, Heyday has 12 production lines across China and Finland, manufacturing over 448 million pads.
