In a momentous triumph for Indian sports, Aditi Gopichand Swami has etched her name in the annals of history by becoming the first Indian woman to clinch an individual compound gold medal at the prestigious World Archery Championships 2023. Aditi Swami, the gold medallist, has not only broken the glass ceilings but has also become an inspiring symbol for aspiring athletes across the country. After winning the Junior World title, nearly two months ago, she has now won the title of Youngest Ever-Senior World Champion.

Aditi Gopichand Swami and Ojas Pravin Deotale shined at the World Archery Championships 2023 international stage by becoming India’s first female and male archers, respectively,  to bring home gold.

  • Aditi Swami, Indian Archer, hailing from Satara, Maharashtra, belongs to a modest family.
  • Aditi’s father, Gopichand Swami, is a maths teacher in Satara City. Her mother, Sehla, is a member of Maharashtra Gram Panchayat.
  • Being a supportive parent and a sports enthusiast, her father decided to relocate to a place 15 km away from their hometown to have access to sporting facilities while Aditi was growing up and wanted her to participate in at least 1 sport activity.
  • At 12 years of age, she was introduced to the city’s several sports at Shahu’s Stadium, where Archery caught her attention & after noticing this, her father enrolled her in archery coaching, where she eventually began to spend more than 25 hours a week practicing.
  • Motivated by the inspirational videos of the Commonwealth Games 2010 archery stars and her consistent efforts, Aditi soon began her medal-winning journey at the archery competitions.
  • Today, at just 17 years of age, she has the title of Junior and youngest-ever Senior World Champion in her name.
