Sarabjot Singh is an Indian athlete specializing in pistol shooting. He made his Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he won a bronze medal alongside Manu Bhaker in the mixed team event. Although Sarabjot narrowly missed qualifying for the men’s 10m pistol final by just one point, he showed remarkable resilience by helping secure a bronze in the team competition. Sarabjot Singh was born on September 30, 2001, in Dheen village, Ambala. His father is a farmer, and his mother, Hardeep Kaur, is a homemaker. Sarabjot completed his graduation from DAV College, Chandigarh. Although he initially played football with his friends, his interest in shooting was sparked when he attended a summer camp and saw kids wielding air pistols.

Sarabjot expressed his desire to pursue shooting to his parents, but his father was hesitant due to the sport’s expenses. After months of persistence, his father agreed. At the age of 16, Sarabjot traveled 50 kilometers from Dheen to Ambala for coaching under Abhishek Rana. His dedication paid off when he won a gold medal at the Junior World Championship in Suhl, Germany.

Sarabjot Singh Career Highlights

In 2019, Sarabjot Singh won the gold medal at the SSF Junior World Cup. In 2021, he secured gold in both the individual and team events at the World Championships. Sarabjot was also part of the Indian 10m mixed team at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where the Indian shooting team won gold. Alongside Divya Thadigol Subbaraju, Sarabjot claimed gold in the 10m mixed pistol competition. He added to his accolades by winning three World Cup gold medals in 2023 and 2024, including one in Munich in June, in addition to his two Asian Games medals from the previous year.

Sarabjot Singh made headlines after returning from the Paris Olympics 2024 when he declined a government job offer to focus on his sports career. He was offered the director position in the sports department but chose to prioritize his shooting. “The job is good, but I will not do it now. I want to work on my shooting first,” Sarabjot said.

 

Future Prospects

After returning with a bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sarabjot Singh received a grand welcome from a large crowd, including the Haryana Chief Minister. His father and coach, Abhishek Rana, expressed their gratitude to the Haryana government and Chief Minister for the warm reception. Despite being offered a job by the Haryana government, Sarabjot declined, stating that he wanted to focus on his shooting practice.

Sarabjot Singh said, “I have yet to achieve my main goal. Hopefully, I will accomplish it in 2028. I used to write in my diary that I would give my best in Paris. However, I have not yet given my personal best. I want to shoot for gold in 2028.”
