Pushkar Singh Dhami is a BJP leader and is currently serving as the chief minister of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. He is being hailed as a hero for bringing the Uniform Civil Code, which seeks to establish a common set of civil laws for all communities in the state. This code will apply to matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance, property, etc.

Born in a small village in Pithoragrah district in Uttarakhand, Pushkar Dhami has risen through the ranks and has been praised by BJP’s senior leadership like J.P. He was sworn in as the 10th CM of Uttarakhand in July 2021 at the age of 45, becoming the youngest Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

Born in a Rajput family in Kumaon region’s Tundi village of Pithoragarh district from where he moved with his family to Khatima. Pushkar Dhami received his education in a government school due to financial constraints. He completed his Graduation from Lucknow University, specializing in human resource management and industrial relations. Thereafter, he pursued an LLB from Lucknow University.

Political Career

Dhami has been very active since a young age, participating in NSS and NCC camps and he has also been involved in social work. Starting his political career, he joined Akhil Bharti Vidyarthee Parishad (ABVP) in 1990 and went on to serve the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh in various positions.

In 2001, Pushkar Dhami served as special advisor to the, then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

From 20002 to 2008, He served as the state president of Bhartiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha.

Pushkar Singh Dhami’s real venture into politics started when he was elected BJP MLA from Udham Singh Nagar of Khatima constituency in 2012 and secured a second term in 2017 from the same constituency.

In 2021, Dhami was chosen as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand by the BJP High Command and Uttarakhand MLAs. Although Dhami lost his Khatima seat in the 2022 elections, he led his party to a victory in the elections.

Pushkar Singh Dhami’s name will go down in history as the leader and the first Chief Minister in the history of India who implemented the Uniform Civil Code in his state. The proposed law will weed out discrimination against women in the personal laws of different religions and communities, ensuring social justice and women’s empowerment. The law will give equal rights to women in marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance and simplify the legal system, replacing centuries-old civil laws and ensuring national integration by promoting a sense of belonging among the citizens.
