After early education in Kolkata and Mumbai, Dr. P.S. Gahlaut finished his education with Honours Degree in Chemistry and Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from University of Delhi followed by PhD. in Business Management from Inter American University, Florida.

He had joined his present Company namely M/s. Indian Potash Limited (IPL) in 1985 as a Zonal Manager.  He served IPL in different capacities before taking over as Managing Director in 1997.  IPL then was a single product trading company with very small equity base without any capital asset or reserves. IPL today is well diversified conglomerate with interest in Fertilizers, Sugar, Bio-fuels, Bio-energy and Dairying. It is financially strong profit making and dividend paying company and is set to achieve turnover of more than Rs.30,000 Crores in FY 2022-23.

He is widely travelled and has made presentations at National and International Seminars. He has served as Chairman of The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) and as also Vice President of the International Fertiliser Industry Association (IFA), Paris. He is associated with several Government of India Committees concerned with administration of fertiliser subsidy, long term fertiliser policy etc. He has also been Chairperson of several Agriculture and Environment related Projects implemented in India with financial support of international agencies like Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), India Canada Environment Facility (ICEF) and German Development Bank etc.

Besides serving as Managing Director, Indian Potash Limited, Dr. Gahlaut is also on the Board of Directors of many Indian and a couple of foreign companies in Jordan and Indonesia.

He is also serving as ‘Honorary Secretary General’ of “Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific” (NEDAC), Bangkok – an organization promoted by three international agencies namely FAO, ICA and ILO.
