Pawan Kalyan’s transition from films to politics was a major step. In March 2014, he founded the Jana Sena Party (JSP) to address social and political issues, though he did not participate in the 2014 elections. His political goal is to tackle public concerns and promote better governance.

The Jana Sena Party, meaning “People’s Army,” aims to serve the public and address their issues. Since its founding, JSP has concentrated on economic development, social justice, and transparent governance.

In November 2016, Kalyan announced that JSP would contest the 2019 Andhra Pradesh general elections, planning to run in all 175 constituencies without forming alliances. By August 2017, he had declared his intention to commit fully to politics, starting in October 2017, after fulfilling his film obligations.

On June 12, 2024, Pawan Kalyan was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Andhra Pradesh government. Four days later, on June 16, 2024, he was named Deputy Chief Minister.
