Aman Sehrawat: The Rise of India’s Youngest Olympic Champion

Aman Sehrawat became the nation’s youngest Olympic champion, surpassing PV Sindhu’s record of winning an Olympic medal at 21 years, 1 month, and 14 days. Aman secured his Olympic medal at just 21 years and 24 days. His remarkable journey to the top of the wrestling world captivated the nation, making him a household name and a symbol of hope for aspiring athletes. With his historic Olympic achievement, Aman brought glory to India and inspired a new generation of young sports enthusiasts. Early Life and Background

Aman Sehrawat was born on July 16, 2003, in Birhohar village, Haryana, a region known for producing some of India’s finest wrestlers. Tragically, he lost both his parents at the age of 10—his mother, a housewife, died by suicide due to mental health issues, and his father, a tractor mechanic, passed away just months later. Despite this difficult childhood, Aman became India’s youngest Olympic medalist.

After his parents’ deaths, Aman and his sister were taken in by their uncle, Sudhir Sehrawat, who enrolled Aman in North Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. He began his wrestling journey there, inspired by his idol, Sushil Kumar. In an interview, Sudhir Sehrawat revealed that Aman struggled with depression and anxiety after losing his parents and even considered turning to drugs as an escape. However, he ultimately channelled his pain into wrestling, dedicating himself fully to the sport and becoming a champion at such a young age.
